Math Placement Exam


Overview

At Texas A&M University all incoming freshmen and some transfer students are required to take a Math Placement Exam (MPE). The Math Placement Exam is a 90-minute exam used to assess students' math skills. This is an important tool to help advisors determine which math course students should take. For more information on the Math Placement Exam, you can visit the Math Department's website at the link below.

  • Three-week course offered multiple times throughout the summer. It has morning, afternoon, and evening sessions to accommodate your schedule

Practice Problems

Practice Placement Test

For students taking the MPE for MATH 151, 171, or 147, there is an online practice test with a similar interface to the actual MPE. To access this version, log into howdy.tamu.edu (link below), go to the Applicant tab (or My Records tab for current students), and follow instructions for the Math Placement Exam. When you get to the MPE webpage, you will see an option to take a practice exam.
